The Sim rooms

A case is split into rooms. Use the room bar at the top to move between them. On a computer you can hold Alt (Option on a Mac) and press 1 to 7 to open the room in that position. The shortcut is off while you are typing in a text box.

Each room keeps its own tools, but the case stays the same. The header always reminds you: "Practice only · Fictional patient · Not clinical advice".

Patient

Talk with the patient and watch the monitor. The monitor shows live vitals, alarms and treatments for the fictional patient. A panel summarises what you have found so far in this practice case.

Along with the conversation you can use the action menu to prescribe, refer or escalate, safety-net and follow up, and ask about the patient's ideas, concerns and expectations. To examine, go to the Examination room.

The patient's clock keeps sim time. Some devices cannot draw the full monitor. In that case the monitor shows simpler waveforms or numbers only, and the numbers stay the same.

Examination

Choose a part of the body first, then choose how to examine it. What you find is listed, newest first, and also shows in the patient summary.

Laboratory

Search for a test (for example FBC, EUC, trop or lactate) and order it. Your worklist shows ready results first, then pending, then viewed. Results are not opened for you. Open each result when it is ready. After the case ends your worklist and results are kept.

Debrief

The Debrief room is where your practice feedback appears. It also shows a timeline of what happened in sim time, and the patient's vitals at the start and the end. After the written feedback, you can talk it through with a coach. See Practice feedback.
