Viva practice

Viva practice lets you rehearse the viva with a practice panel. Open Viva practice from the Education menu.

The page carries the same line as every Sim screen:

Practice feedback from an AI. It is not an assessment of competence and is not seen by anyone unless you share it.

How the practice viva works

  • The case is revealed in three stages.
  • A panel of a nurse practitioner, a doctor and an academic asks set questions in turn.
  • It takes about 20 minutes, then you get practice feedback in words.
  • You can pause, and keep private notes.

Choosing what to practise on

The page has three parts.

  • Practise on a case. Sim cases that include viva questions. Each card shows the setting and about how many minutes it takes. Cases written by AI carry the label "AI-drafted practice case".
  • Defend your own case. Use one of your own case exemplars. Your case sections are checked for patient details first. Your case is not added to the case library and no one else can see it.
  • Your practice vivas. The vivas you have started. Open one to carry on, or to read its feedback if it has ended.

During the viva

  • Answer each question in your own words.
  • You can pause at any time. When paused, the screen says "Paused. Your answer is kept."
  • Your notes are private: "Only you can see these notes. They stay with this practice session. Do not write real patient details."
  • When the time is up, the panel asks the diagnostic time-out question, then the viva ends.
  • You can end early with End and see feedback. Questions not yet asked will not be asked. If you end before answering anything, there is no feedback yet.

Your feedback

When the panel has finished its questions, you get practice feedback in words. For each question it shows what a good answer covers and what you said, and it groups the feedback by NMBA practice statement.

Levels are shown as "Not sure — check this yourself" until the panel's level check has been tested. Compare your answers with the points listed.
